About us
Meet the Founders
After working side by side for years in the charter fishing industry, Ephraim and Shane co-founded Apex Lodge and Charters in 2018 and brought their shared vision to life from the ground up (literally). With years spent on the waters around Pelican, Alaska, they developed a clear understanding of what makes an exceptional guest experience. They built the lodge with intention, ensuring every detail reflects what guests truly need, from thoughtful amenities to a seamless and welcoming atmosphere.
Located in the remote fishing village of Pelican on Chichagof Island, the lodge was thoughtfully designed and built by hand by Ephraim and Shane to take full advantage of one of the most productive and untouched fishing regions in Alaska. The thoughtfully designed lodge reflects their commitment to quality, comfort, and access to world-class fishing.
In January 2026, Shane passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. His resilience, drive, and passion for the outdoors remains deeply woven into the foundation of Apex Lodge and Charters. Today Ephraim continues to lead the lodge forward, honoring what they built together and ensuring that Shane’s legacy lives on in every experience, every detail, and every guest who walks through the doors.
Our fleet consists of three identical 32 foot aluminum walk-arounds; Apex Predator, The Bounty, and Bandito, each custom built by Allied Boats to our exact specifications. With cruising speeds of 28 knots, spacious 9 × 9 ft rear decks, and full walkarounds with forward landings, every vessel offers plenty of room to fish and move comfortably. All boats feature Shockwave seating to smooth out rough seas, heaters for brisk mornings, large windows for panoramic Alaska views, and a private onboard bathroom. We outfit each vessel with top quality gear including Accurate reels, Edge and Lamiglas rods, and Tanacom electric reels for deep-sea fishing. There are no upcharges for specific boats. Whichever one you board, you’ll enjoy the same safe, comfortable, and exceptional experience.
The Fleet
Located in the remote fishing village of Pelican, Alaska, Apex Lodge sits just outside town and is accessible only by boat or floatplane. Overlooking Lisianski Inlet, it offers privacy, sweeping mountain and waterfall views, and easy walking access to the docks and boardwalk. Most fishing takes place around nearby Yakobi Island, an 82 sq. mile National Wilderness area with no development and minimal fishing pressure making it an exceptional place to target halibut and salmon.
Guest rooms feature convertible Twin XL to King beds, full private bathrooms, large windows with stunning views, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Our house crew provides daily laundry service and attentive care so you can simply relax. After a day on the water, unwind in the lounge with recliners, a large sofa, and a flat screen TV, or enjoy the covered deck that wraps around much of the lodge. The dining room, the heart of the lodge, offers panoramic views and a welcoming space to enjoy meals crafted by our in house chef and share stories from your Alaskan adventure.
